The Building: Rochdale Town Hall.

What the client needed: Lightning Conductor Installation

Of Victorian-era and recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade I listed building, Rochdale Town Hall is “widely recognised as being one of the finest municipal buildings in the country”.

The building was identified as requiring a Lightning Conductor installation, as the previous system was non-compliant with the BSEN62305 standard.

The Town Hall’s Grade 1 listing added complexity to the project and to ensure it was carried out as smoothly as possible, we attended pre-tender meetings to understand the scope of the work, as well as to be able to provide a precise quote.

This involved several site meetings, a site visit by the MEWP provide and a final pre-project briefing with the site installation team.

Following careful deliberation and planning with regards to architectural elements and considering the team working so closely to public footways, the installation was fixed in accordance with recommendations made in BSEN 62305 and in line with the client’s architectural requirements.

Taking the building’s unique architectural considerations into account, our fully trained Osborne Delta personnel worked at height using rope access methods and a mobile elevated working platform.

The system was installed to follow the contour of the walls and downspouts ensuring it blended into the building fabric without disruption to the picturesque exterior of the structure.

The installation was successfully completed within the client’s budget and the specified timeframes of 4 weeks.
